We are dormitory style share house. All rooms are either 4 bed dorm or 2 bed dorm.
Since we are monthly share house, contract should be more than a month (30 days) and the first month rent wouldn't be refunded or divided even if you stayed less than a month (30 days). It is possible to pay daily rate from the second month.

The nearest station is Otsuka station on JR Yamanote line.

Narita Airport Please use airport access from Narita Airport to Nippori station on JR Yamanote line. Change to Yamanote line bounding for Ikebukuro, Shinjku direction at Nippori, get off at Otsuka station whichi is the 5th stops from Nippori.

Haneda Airport Take Tokyo Monorail to Hamamtsu-cho (¥470). Change to Yamanote line. Take Yamanote line to Otsuka station (¥190). It takes about 1 hour. You can use 'Monorail & Yamanote line Day Pass' (¥500) during the limited period.
You can also use Keikyu line from Haneda to Shinagawa station (another Yamanote line station) for ¥400. You might or might not need to transfer the train depending on the train you get on. Take Yamanote line bound for Shibuya / Shinjuku. Otsuka is 13th stop from Shinagwa station. It is ¥250.

Ikebukuro station: Take Yamanote line outer direction and get off at Otuska station (1st stop from Ikebukuro station)

●If you are coming by toll way, get off at Higashi-Ikebukuro exit on "shutoko"Metropolitan Expressway. Turn right at the T junction then turn left right after. When you hit Kasugadori at Higashi-Ikebukuro 2 chome intersection, turn right then turn left right after. Turn left at Utsusemihashi minami intersection and cross a bridge over railroad. Turn right at Utsusemihashi kita intersection and head toward JR Otsuka station. Turn left at the end of a slope where there is a roundabout. Turn left at the corner of Mizuho bank and a pachinko parlor. Keep going straight at the intersection of boxing gym and a cafe BonBon. You will find a white building on your right. There are a lot of one way street in this area so please be careful. Make sure to park your car at a designated parking lot otherwise you might get parking ticket.

We have summarized frequently asked questions to Share House TAMA in Tokyo. Please find the answer to your question here first.

Do you accept short term guests?
Our contract is monthly basis, meaning we require the first 30 days rent even if you are staying less than 30 days. However, it can still be cheaper than staying daily basis hostel.
Is there a security locker?
There is no security locker in the guesthouse. Please keep your valuables by yourself.
Do I have to pay the utility fees?
Yes. Please pay 300 yen / day for the utility fees in advance.
Is there internet access in the guesthouse?
We provide free Wi-Fi access. Please bring your own device to access to the internet. Also, there is a common PC in the living room.
Is there any age limit?
No, but we require your parents' permission if you are underage (19-yrs-old or younger). Anybody who can not fend for yourself is not accepted at our guesthouse. The youngest guest is 1 year old. Of course he was with his mother and his mom was here to see her new work place in Tokyo. The oldest guest is 80 years old. She was selling her house and getting ready for her new life at a nursing home. Another example is 16 years old student. She was attending a high school in Tokyo and her parents were worried if she lived by herself.
I have quite a lot of stuff. How much luggage can I bring?
It depends on the size of the room but aproximately 2 to 4 boxes can be stored in your space. If you have more than that, you can pay for the extra bed and put your belongings on the other bed.
Can I register as a resident of Toshimaku by using guesthouse address?
Yes, you can. There is a branch office of Toshima-ku and you can do the official paper there as well.
How long does the opening special price last?
We will keep offering the special price until the end of this fiscal year.
Do you have a private room?
No we don't. We only provide dormitory rooms. We'd like you to meet people from all over the world and experience different culture.
Can I park a bicycle or a motorcycle?
No, there is no parking space.
Do you provide futon, matress, pillow, and sheets?
Yes, we do. Please wash them (sheets) by yourself during your stay.
What kinds of people live in the share house?
There are working holiday makers, university students, those who are on internship in Japan, those who are seeking job in Tokyo, those who simply work everyday, artists, backpackers, those who are back in Japan temporarily, and many other kinds of people. There are some people who base on here and travel Japan. People who rode peace boat lived here as well.
Can I receive mails and packages?
Regular mails are delivered to the mail box of the guesthouse. If you are getting something that needs to be received in person, you have to wait and receive it by yourself. If you are in inporting-exporting business and receive exceeding amount of packages, we don't receive or keep them everytime. Please use different address for your business.
Is there curfew?
No, there isn't, however, please keep quiet after the light-out(11 p.m.)
Can I extend the stay? How much would it be?
The rent from the second 30 days is 33,000 yen or 30,000 yen, depending on the size of the room. We will charge daily basis from the second month.
When does the rent start? Can I transfer the rent?
The rent period starts from the day you moved in. Please papy the rent every 30 days. If you would like to transfer the money, you have to pay the transaction fee.
Is there a bath at the share house or is there a public bath nearby?
There is a bath tub but you can use shower only. If you want to use bath tub, there are a couple of public bath houses in walking distance. It is 460 yen.
Is there a washing machine? Can I hang my clothes to dry?
There are two coin-operated-washing machine. Both are operated by 100 yen. Laundromat is usually by a public bath. They charge 200 yen.
Is there air conditioner and heater? Can a resident adjust the temperature of the machine?
There is a air conditioner in each room. The temperature should be 28 degrees celcius in the summer and 18 degrees celcius in the winter.
Can I use the kitchen? I want to cook by myself and save the food costs.
Yes, you can. There are basic cooking tools such as refregirator, rice cooker, microwave, and so on.
Who cleans the room / house?
Helper staffs clean the common area, however, please clean your own bed space by yourself.
Are there any grocery stores or convenience stores near by?
They are all located in walking distance. There are 2 grocery sotre near our share house, Yoshiya and My basket, and two convenience store, Family Martand Seven Eleven.
Is it safe to walk around at night near the share house?
There are many restaurants and street lights around Otsuka area. People walk around pretty late at night so it is quite safe.

Do you hold any tour or activity?
We hold Hanami party, fireworks viewing, Mt. Fuji climbing, and Christmas party. Guests themselves hold parties.
Is it close to downtown?
Yes, since we are located near JR Yamanote line, it is quite easy to access to most of the business districts. Ikebukuro is only one stop from Otsuka station, Shinjuku is 5th stop, and Shibuya is 8th stop.
I work at night. Is it possible to sleep during a day?
Basically, there is no problem but if you let us know when you move in, we might be able to arrange your room.
How long does it take to go to a touristic spot?
There are many touristic spots.
Can I smoke in the guesthouse?
It is non-smoking inside the building. You can smoke at the balcony.
What time can I check in?
Our business hour is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., however, we can arrange the time if you tell us in advance. Please contact about it first.
Can I charge my cell-phone in my bed? Is there an outlet and a light in each bed?
There are two outlets in each bed.
Is there parking space?
We don't have a parking space. Please use a coin-operated parking near our guesthouse. There are monthly parking as well but please reserve it by yourself in advance.
How many rooms are there, or what is the plan like?

Can I take a look before I actually decide to move in?
Yes, you can. Please make a reservation even only for the visit.

What do I need when I move in?
Please bring first 30 days rent (27,000 yen), 9,000 yen utility fees, and deposit (10,000 yen) all in cash, photo ID and its photo copy. Other than that, you only have to bring your personal belongings. No guarantor is needed.
